What can I do if refused?

Depending on the nature of the refusal you may be better reapplying instead of making an appeal. Appeals can take over 12 months, cost £1000s in legal costs and produce the initial refusal may still be upheld. Sometimes reapplying can be a better decision as it is quicker. Take for example the 12 months it takes to appeal a spouse visa application from overseas. During this time the applicant could have reapplied and been approved in 3 months. That means they have lost 9 months of working time which could equal over £10,000 in lost earnings including valuable time away from partners and family. When this is considered, reapplying can be a better choice.
