Who are Tier 1 visas for?
The Tier 1 Visa Category is a route for highly skilled migrants to come to the UK. This is broken up into different 5 visa categories. Tier 1 Visa Categories
Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa – (Most Popular Tier 1 Visa route)
The Entrepreneur Tier 1 Visa category is designed for candidates to apply for immigration to the UK on the grounds that they have a substantial investment or by starting or gaining control of UK based business. For the Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa you will need to have available £200,000 to invest in a new business or buy a business. You will also have to employ 2 full time staff. After 3 years if you have met these conditions you can apply for a Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa extension followed by indefinite leave to remain after you have completed a full 5 years. Tier 1 exceptional Talent Visa
This Tier 1 Visa route is for those who are internationally recognised as world leaders or potential world-leading talent in the fields of science and the arts and who wish to work in the UK under the tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa. Applicants must be internationally recognised as world leaders in their field and be chosen by a one of the designated bodies set out by the UK Government for exceptional applicants.
Tier 1 Investor Visa
This is similar to the entrepreneur category of the Tier 1 Visa however the Tier 1 Investor Visa sum is much larger and there are no requirements to engage directly in business activities. You will have to invest a minimum of 2 Million pounds in the UK to be able to obtain a UK Visa based on investing.
Tier 1 Same Day Visa Route
It’s important to note that some of the Tier 1 Visas can’t be obtained through the Home Office Same Day Tier 1 Visa Service, so it’s important to check this information, so you can plan around any long waits for your Tier 1 application to be processed.
Tier 1 General Visa (Closed to new applicants and extensions closed on April 2015)
The most common of the Tier 1 Visa class is the Tier 1 General Visa. This was closed on April 6th 2011 to new applicants. Extensions for Tier 1 General where closed in April 2016. All Tier 1 General visa holders must apply for ILR before April 2018 as the route will be completely closed. It is advised that if you don’t qualify for ILR through Tier 1 General before April 2018 that you try to obtain a Tier 2 General sponsored visa.
Tier 1 PSW Visa (Now closed)
The Post Study Work Tier 1 Visa is an option for Students graduating in the UK at Degree level or higher to continue contributing to the country by applying their skills and knowledge to the British economy. The Tie1 PSW visa is granted for a period of 2 years and the visa holder can work with any employer they choose. This visa closed in April 2012 and was a route used by many students. It is advisable to apply for a Tier 2 General visa if you are a student finishing your studies and want to work in the UK.
